Fused Glass "Coral" Bowl Sat. June 29th

  • 66 US dollars
  • R Coffee Corner, 3848 East Harbor Light Landing Dr., Port Clinton, Oh

Class Description

Ever wonder how these pieces are made? In this class, you make one of your own! You start with several small pieces to form a 12 inch round 'coral' design of your own. Dody will full fuse your design to form one flat piece. Your piece will then go back into the kiln for a second firing. The second firing will slump your piece to fit a bowl mold. You have 2 shapes to choose from. The shape shown is a cone bowl. Finished piece will be 9 x 4. Your second option will be a bowl with a finished size of 9 x 3. The sides of the second mold flare out a bit more than the 'cone' mold. There will be samples shown in class. The following colors will be available: green-blue mix, as shown in the sample, solid opaque bright white, transparent light blue, or opaque jade green. Color options will be chosen at class sign in on a first come first serve basis. This is a great piece you will be proud to display! Class is limited to 10. Students will not be cutting glass - pieces will be provided. Colors may vary from picture shown. After the class, Dody will fire your piece and arrange for a day to pick up your piece the following week. About your instructor: Dody Bowman was first introduced to warm glass while she was teaching ceramics at the Kapalua Art School, Kapalua, Maui. She loved what you can do with glass and made her living the next 18 years on Maui selling her beautiful glass work in galleries, art fairs and craft events. To continue to learn and grow, she’s taken glass fusing classes with legendary glass artist, Patty Gray, and Master Class fusing with Tonya Veit, AAE Glass, whose work she admires. Dody has been actively firing glass for 25 years. Dody’s teaching philosophy: I want you to experiment and do your own thing art wise, while using my knowledge and experience to guide you on making a piece that will last forever. I want to help you learn the basics of glass, not only to have fun, but to create an amazing piece of your own. Through experimenting with combining colors and thicknesses of glass, I’ll help you understand what happens in the kiln and why.
